Kennington Park is a very impressive group of buildings, close to Oval Tube station and on the main bus routes of Brixton Road and Camberwell New Road. Canterbury Court was built towards the end of the 19th Century as secure fire proof industrial building for Hackney Carriages. The scheme is centred around a new atrium to the first and second floors, which forms a new entrance, reception and café. The atrium includes glass and steel stairs between 1st, 2nd & 3rd floors and a glass lift. The atrium roof is made of steel arches, ETFE cushions and glazed walls and doors. The third floor is a new build rooftop extension, made of steel frame, glass external walls and pre-cast concrete slab flat roof giving thermal mass. Natural ventilation is provided by perimeter windows/doors and 'windcatchers' located at the rear of the office units. The walls are set back from the edge of the building to provide a terrace. Office units are arranged around this on both the 2nd and 3rd floors. The front forecourt has been re-landscaped to improve both pedestrian access and disabled access to the new business centre. The 1st floor deck has been extended to provide additional outside seating area for the café. A new platform lift and enclosure is located to the side of the principal entrance and new stairs. Planting has been incorporated in raised planters flanking the approach and beds to the front edge of the deck. The entrance is given prominence by 2 wind turbines to each side, and a steel and glass canopy to the main doors..
